Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Ireland recommend that every three years, those trained in Adult MHFA attend a refresher course to refresh their knowledge. This follows a very similar approach to the physical first aid approach, which many of us are familiar with.
Just as physical first aiders undertake refresher courses to keep their skills finely tuned and their reactions and responses sharp, so should Mental Health First Aiders.
With more being understood, discussed, and implemented surrounding mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, new actions, responses, and terminology are constantly emerging. If your Mental Health First Aiders are kept up to date with such changes, via the refresher courses, they will be knowledgeable in current and appropriate reactions, responses, and support.
